NEW Bucharest Expat Features

Well it looks as though you’ve seen our new and improved website at Bucharest Expat! We’re celebrating over a year now, and have made the decision to kick 2011 off with our new design and layout. During our interactions in the past with many Bucharest Expat readers, subscribers, and members, we have pieced together what we felt were the most important of the changes and improvements we could integrate into this new site. You’ll see many categories and pages within Bucharest Expat that you are familiar with, however our old news-style look and feel is gone for good. You didn’t think you’d find ordinary news articles here did you??

So what can we expect this year for some cool new features on the site?

Ask Bucharest!

Ask Bucharest was a concept that grew from ongoing confusion with commenting on Bucharest Expat’s blog, versus posting on Bucharest Expat’s Forum. We’ve done away with the forum altogether, and commenting on articles is easier than ever. With the integration of Ask Bucharest within Bucharest Expat’s pages and menu bars, one can easily navigate to this unique “question and answer” board. Here is where you don’t even have to be logged in before you can ask a question, answer a question, or vote on the best question regarding anything and everything Bucharest or Romania. This one is sure to be a big hit! By the way, if you wish to go to the stand-alone site without going through Expat, you may, at www.AskBucharest.com

Classifieds
We have had a growing classified section where you can post free classified advertisements for any of your goods or services Bucharest related. We’ve increased the allowable file size so you can post an excellent amount of images for free that will help your ad SELL! Don’t miss this section, as we’ve seen some excellent services offered as well as some great deals on real estate and other products.

Better Organization
Our top navigation bar features our pages. Here you’ll find everything from metro maps to movie showtimes, Bucharest Top 5 to Travel Tips. Have a tip or suggestion you’d love to share? Contact us and we’ll feature your story!
Just above the slideshow for featured articles is our categories section, which features an in-depth, yet simple to understand orginization of our article topics. You can see what’s new on the front page or you can simply sort and search via our nav bars.

Social Media Integration
Let’s face it… no matter how much we resist the ridiculousness of Twitter and Facebook, they’re probably going to be here for a while… and if you can’t beat ‘em then join ‘em! We’ve got our social media up and running, you can visit us on Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, and more via the Follow Me Button on the right hand side of the browser window. As always, if you like one of our pages or articles, please share it on your favorite social media site… we’ll owe ya one! That brings us to our next cool feature… the Disqus commenting system…

Disqus

Typically blogs and sites of this nature feature a commenting system that requires a series of registration and login steps that actually discourage people to leave comment and discussion on articles. The Disqus Comment system allows people to have a much more user-friendly experience with the ability to instantly login with their preferred social media site or ID. Simply leave the information you wish to leave, and when you return, Disqus will recognize you. You can even become involved in the Disqus community be leaving links to your website which will in turn promote your business or service! Take a look at some of the popular websites that use the Disqus system:

Awesome new site, guys. Love the new layout and the new look, and I can’t wait to try out the new Ask section. You are really starting the new year out right!

  • Marianne

I’m loving the new look – it is just right for the second decade of the 21st century. The old forum based sites for ex-pats are very 1990′s and 2000-ish – you are wise to do away with it.

I like the new look of the site. Great job to the folks that made this upgrade. I’m sure this site will become the number 1 expat site in the internet.

  • Jolene

Love the updated look. Can’t wait to explore it all and discover more about this beautiful country and other people like me who came for a quick trip then decided I couldn’t leave!

  • Audrey

I must say that this site is very easy to navigate. And the content is awesome. Exactly the stuff that a person from another country can find helpful, and brings us together.

  • Caleb

I really like the new home page, especially the part at the top where you can scroll through some of the newest stories. One thing that I miss, though, is that back when I could log in with a username, I had a user profile page and could find my old posts. Is there still a way to do that? (I don’t have a facebook page or anything like that, but I have posted here before.)

  • Eric

I know the feeling, Caleb. I thought I was the last one on earth not to be on facebook! I may have to join now, especially if it means I can do more stuff here on the expat site.

  • KitKatt

I love all the different places on the screen you can go to find different stories. The menus, the scroll bars, the pictures at the top and bottom, the tags along the side – now I’ll never miss a story again!
