Whilst it may appear that we have been a bit quiet recently, we have been toiling away behind the scenes on a new area of Bucharest Expat. In times of financial instability, everyone needs to be more careful when planning their finances and looking to invest in their own future.
Looking at the global markets at the moment is not a cheerful pastime. FOREX rates are up and down with the usual lack of underlying logic (that we can see). The stock markets are also doing their best to impersonate a roller coaster and commodity prices look set to increase. For now. Gold is always an investors best friend in uncertain times and recent prices have reflected this. The price of oil per barrel is increasing and there is speculation that unless the current unrest across the Middle East cools down a bit that the price could start to go up to even higher levels. This will not be good for anyone around the world unless they are in the oil business (or a nation with reserves – sadly Romania has gone from being a major producer of oil in the early parts of the last century to being barely self sufficient). It also threatens further market instability.
In an effort to provide you with up to date news and insights into the financial markets, we have teamed up with a company called deVere who will provide us with a weekly summary of what is going on. The deVere Group https://www.devere-group.com/ are the world’s largest independent financial consultancy group. They can help you create a bespoke financial solution that addresses your needs as an expatriate or international investor. They offer advice on financial services that suit medium to long term requirements for investments, savings and pensions.
We have also found a company that can provide help with tax returns, which will be of particular benefit if you are a US citizen based in Romania (or anywhere else) as this is an annual requirement. The one thing that most governments have in common is their passion for tax – how else will all those fine and upstanding politicians be able to finance their flights of fancy (and the holiday, the villa etc.)? We would encourage you to be honest but not pay taxes that you are not liable for….
The new section will be available via the top navigation bar and it will be called ‘Expat World Of Investing & Finance’. To start with the content sections will be:
- Taxes
- Physical Investing
- Portfolio Investing
- Retirement Planning
