    • ]]>     Late one night about a week ago, some friends and I headed out to search for a “not so crammed full” place to grab a drink and listen to some music. I was really craving some acoustic guitar and vocals, that up until this evening, I was convinced did not exist in Bucharest.

    Well, we wound up down a little back street popping off Calea Victoriei where it appeared as though we had “made a wrong turn”. But indeed we hadn’t. On the front of one of these little back alley buildings was a tiny staircase under a lit sign that led you downstairs to lounge called Limelight: Piano Bar (do not attempt any ascent or descent on these stairs while drunk without the proper use of THE RAILING).

    Once downstairs we were greeted by a very non-crowded bar. We meandered our way towards the right rear where we had a great view of the 2 vocalists, one playing acoustic guitar, the other on an electronic piano (placed strategically behind a grand piano that served dual purpose as a bar… hence the name).

    Although we were seated on comfortable red plush seating in a private corner reminiscent of all things Mafia and Godfather, the music was actually THAT GREAT that we grabbed our cocktails and sat ourselves up at the “Piano Bar” itself midway through a song by “The Police” where you would have sworn Sting himself was leading the song. Some AC/DC, Crowded House, Aerosmith, and Frank Sinatra songs later, we paid off our moderately priced tab and headed home.

    Definitely a place you will see me again. Bravo to this location. It’s a shame the marketing and branding is kept such a secret here, as it truly left me with zero disappointment. Check it out.

    • ]]>     Although you really don’t have too many safety concerns in Bucharest as a whole, there is quite a lot of petty theft you’ll want to be keen on here. From pickpockets to planned “scores”, common sense should once again prevail if you wish your personal belongings to be safe and secure. HOWEVER… there are some times when you’ll get caught off guard. Even when you think you have nothing to worry about, you should better be safe than sorry. Case in point: today we had a camera stolen from the front passenger floorboard of our parked car. We steeped away from the car (a high end luxury car.. which is a prime target as-is, se be aware) only for a few moments. We “remember” locking the doors, but sure enough, the camera was gone when we came back. Hmmmm… did we lock the doors? Did someone use a device to “unlock” the doors in a matter of minutes? Was it planned like so many petty crimes here are? Was it a random event? We’ll never know for sure. But what we do know, is NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING VALUABLE IN YOUR CAR. Basically think of an item in your car as a great big advertisement for “Steal Me Incorporated”. We would love to hear some more crime stories, not with the intention of “scaring off our readers” but with the sole purpose of education… for a better Bucharest and smarter living!

    • ]]>     The Spaniards hit a home-run with the assistance in the redevelopment of old town Lipscani. If you have yet to go… you’re missing out. Probably half a dozen cobbled and bricked streets 90% pedestrian friendly is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes. If you have yet to visit, head on over to Victoriei and check it out. Just follow the people.  So far we’ve been over there almost all hours almost every day of the week and its great! (Right in front of the Banc they occosianally hold out door performances and plays… they are a must see as well!! Adjacent to the City Grill Restaurant. I recommend staying out late in the passage of the kings (or whatever its being called at the moment) and smoking some sheesha and having a beer. I’ll join you guys! Let me know! So where else is there to go and what else is there to do?
