Top 5 Bucharest Cafes, Bistros, & Coffee Shops

Grand Cafe Galleron

Grand Cafe Galleron

Grand Cafe Galleron-

Located directly behind the Hilton Hotel (between Victoriei and Magheru) is the completely renovated residential “palace” now home to cafe Galleron. While Cafepedia is a few doors down, and also in a great old building, Grand Cafe Galleron takes the spot in the Top 5 simply due to the excellent hours of operation (they close at midnight, but will NEVER rush you out the door), superbly friendly staff, and the great drink and snack menu. Prices are decent, in the “middle of the line” at around 12 Ron for a “all-out” coffee drink, 9 ron for teas, and 15-25 ron for bistro type sandwiches and snacks. Parking is ample, along the sidestreets. For spring and summer months there is even a nice outdoor terrace area, however limited to a handful of tables. The best part of Galleron? We have never not been able to find a seat, and they also have a flawless wifi connection! Great for coffee and biz meetings!

Green Tea

Green Tea

Green Tea -

Nestled in a residential area of sector 2 very close to Molly’s Irish Pub off of Calea Mosilor is Greet Tea House. Green Tea Bucharest has a nice selection of “most” teas that one would desire, as well as the norm in coffee shop fare. So why does this make it on our Top 5? Being the “warmer” spring months, and transitioning in to summer, one would “desire” an outside terrace. Well this place “takes the cake” for the outside terrace areas. A very “english garden-esque” setting from the moment you walk in the door, this tea house will cater to your “whimsical desires” all the way until 11 at night. Part of a quaint cottage, this tea house is a must visit while in Bucharest. Drinks are priced between 8-14+ lei, so the prices fit right in with normal coffee shops around town.

Cafanea Ramayana

Cafenea Ramayana

Cafenea Ramayana -

One of the most well known cafes in Bucharest is Ramayana. Upon entering Ramayana (near Gara de Nord) you’ll be instantly transported to an Arabesque style lounge. Complete with plush ottomans and deep red satin drapery, Ramayana appears to be pulled straight out of Aladdin. Cafenea Ramayana offers excellent teas (try the white Blueberry) that come in a pot suitable for two. At 15 lei a piece this makes it a deal. Our favorite part of Ramayana? The have Nargila! The places around Bucharest that serve Nargila in a PLEASANT atmosphere are truly limited. When going to Ramayana on the weekends be absolutely sure to call ahead and reserve a table, as space is extremely limited.

Vangogh

Vangogh Cafe

Vangogh Cafe –

Vangogh Bucharest has already been featured in one of our articles in Bucharest Expat already. Most Romania Insider’s now know of the renovated “old town” Lipscani near the city center. Lipscani is host to many venues, but Vangogh is quite possibly the “Best of the Best” worthy of our Top 5. Adjacent to the Rembrandt Hotel sits Vangogh Cafe. An architectural gem, Vangogh features stunning vaulted ceilings, a great wine room downstairs, meeting rooms upstairs, and a full length, fully stocked bar. Best bet? Try the Honey Lemonade with a cheese and meet platter while relaxing on the terrace. Prices here are a bit more expensive, simply due to the location within “touristy” Lipscani. But the Bucharest Insider know’s this is a great place to sit and relax for great coffees, great drinks, and great service!
